This article is intended to give honest and clear advice to readers and does not promote a prescription product.

In order to help educate the public about what they should expect when considering a non-surgical procedure, we’ve put together a guide to help them find aesthetic treatments provided by a specialist they can trust.

Deciding where to go for wrinkle smoothing treatments is a HUGE decision but how do you choose the right doctor?

You might not want to talk to friends about cosmetic doctors yet where do you get honest advice ?

Do Your Research

Focus only on practitioners who are known for their experience, safety record, talent and skill.

Look for doctors who have spent years specializing in injectable aesthetic treatments. These doctors are always keeping up to speed with the latest in aesthetic medicine & procedures.

Read Real Patient Reviews

72% of patients who look up a doctor online will choose their practitioner by the feeling they get after reading their online profile and reviews. It is easy to spot a fake & paid for testimonial from a real patients review.

Only Choose Experienced Aesthetic Practitioners

Anti wrinkle injections are a prescription medication and should only be injected by a medically qualified practitioner. An experienced aesthetic doctor will have treated hundreds of patients like you.

Best NOT to choose someone who may have completed a training course in aesthetic injectables but has not actually injected very many faces.

Never underestimate expertise and hands-on experience & never be afraid to ask your injector how many patients they have successfully treated.

Practitioner’s Training & Qualifications

Check that the practitioner is registered with their relevant regulatory authority.

In Ireland it will be with the Irish Medical Council, In Northern Ireland & the UK it will be the General Medical Council.

Medical & Cosmetic Insurance

You need to be protected if something should go wrong. Ensure that the practitioner has appropriate cosmetic insurance cover. Doctors must meet stringent criteria to be insured.

Have a Consultation with your chosen Doctor

The more reliable clinics offer Doctor / Patient consultations at an extra cost.

Use this time to ask lots of questions of the doctor who will be injecting your face. The doctor will inform you of all the benefits and possible side effects of these type of injections. Let them know about your medical history or any concerns you may have.

Beware of the Free Consultation

Most aesthetic doctors will spend at least 30-40 minutes with a first-time patient.

Clinics offering ‘Free’ consultations will be keen for you to proceed with a treatment to cover the cost of their doctor’s time. After all, who do you know that works for free?

To avoid being up-sold to, best to steer clear of the free consultation.

A better option is to choose a clinic where the doctors consultation fee is deducted from the cost of your treatment.

Expect a Treatment Review & Aftercare Service

The doctor you choose should offer a follow-up service. If you are having anti wrinkle injections for the first time you will want to be certain that you are getting the best result and that the doctor who injected you is always available to discuss your treatment.

Check Prices & Dosage

Do NOT pay the lowest price in town.

Anti Wrinkle Injections are an expensive prescription medication. If someone charges less than the going rate then they might not be using the real FDA approved product or else they are not injecting the recommended dosage into each area.

You will have heard about people getting anti wrinkle injections which did not seem to last very long. This might be because the ingredients were over-diluted or not enough was injected to correct the problem areas.

Ask your doctor at your consultation how many units of product you will need to get your desired results.

Recommended Dosage & Injection Sites

Forehead: 16-20 units

Laugh Lines (around eyes): 10-13 units per side

Glabella (between eyes): 23-26 units

Watch Out for Cowboy Clinics

You should not allow anti wrinkle injections to be injected into your face by just anyone!

Some Beauty Salons & Pop – Up Clinics offer  ” Cheap Deals ” or “Buy 2 areas, Get 1 Free.”  Do not get tempted by discounted deals or cheap price rates. When it comes to medical or cosmetic treatments, you should not compromise on the cost.

Many injectors in these non-clinical environments are not equipped to correct or available to follow up on a procedure if it goes wrong.

The better beauty salons use specialist registered + insured medical practitioners to provide anti wrinkle injections to their clients.
