How to fix a gummy smile

Fix a Gummy Smile

If your GUMMY SMILE is caused by strong lip muscles Dr. Mark Hamilton can fix this by injecting into BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA) the muscles that pull up your top lip. These muscles are then weakened so your face does not pull up as strongly – allowing your lip to cover over the gums above your teeth. This procedure gives patients a huge confidence boost as they can show their teeth in photographs andsmile with a “Big Cheesy Grin!

It’s a very common complaint with men & women who love their teeth but are still unhappy with their smile because too much of the gum shows.  This can be corrected without surgery.

BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA) injections are a recognised & popular treatment for reducing the appearance of a gummy smile. Dr Mark Hamilton is a trained maxillo-facial surgeon. He injects into the Levator Labii Superioris muscle of the upper lip to give the perfect smile.
This relaxes these muscles which in turn allows the lips to give more cover to the upper gum when you smile. It works by reducing movement in the upper lip, preventing it from retracting & showing a large amount of gum when smiling.

At your appointment Dr. Mark will have a consultation with you to see if he can give you the result you desire. The dosing for treatment is variable and based on the desired effect and the strength of the muscles being injected. The most suitable dosage for you will be decided at your consultation. Treatment can be performed at the consultation appointment.

Routinely there is no down time for these injections. Our patients normally return to their normal activities immediately after their treatment.
The procedure takes approximately 15 minutes. The treatment takes 2 weeks to reach peak effect & can last several months. Although it needs to be maintained on a regular basis, our patients are very happy as it is non-invasive and has no down time.
