Before you have your anti-wrinkle injections, you and Dr. Mark will have a consultation to see if he can give you the result you desire. The dosing for your treatment is variable and based on the desired effect and the strength of the muscles being injected. You and he together will decide the most suitable dosage for your wrinkle treatment.
When Dr. Hamilton treats his patients with Botox® his goal is not to erase all of their lines, but rather to create a naturally smoother appearance. You should notice the Botox starting to work in 3-4 days. Over the course of 7-14 days, the effect will become even stronger. After Botox is injected into the muscle, it takes time for it to bind to the receptor responsible for sending the signal to release a chemical that results in muscle contraction. Until this takes place, you will not see an effect. This process takes a different amount of time in different people.
The effect of botulinum toxin generally lasts from 3-6 months. The dosage used for each treatment is variable and based on the desired effect and the strength of the muscles being injected. Rather than over- injecting it’s better to be cautious and a little less aggressive when treating a new patient for the first time especially in the case of the forehead to avoid the risk of drooping.
Routinely there is no down time for anti-wrinkle injections. Our patients normally return to their normal activities immediately after their treatment. Dr Hamilton recommends avoiding strenuous exercise or massaging the area for the first 4 hours after treatment. Also avoid aspirin and similar blood-thinning medications to reduce bruising.
Tiny needle marks and redness at the injection sites will be visible for a few hours. These can covered with concealer makeup. Dr. Hamilton recommends that to prevent the risk of infection please do not apply make up for several hours after your procedure.
Most patients maintain their “Botox effect“ by having injections every 3 -4 months. Botox usually lasts 3 to 6 months depending on your lifestyle.
